Commissioned in 1607 by King Henri IV, Place Dauphine was part of his grand plan to modernize Paris. It was named for his son, the Dauphin (the future Louis XIII), and designed as a companion to Place des Vosges in the Marais.

But while Place des Vosges followed a perfect rectangle, Place Dauphine took on a unique triangular shape, matching the western tip of the island. We stayed in a beautiful two-bedroom apartment on the Quai des Orfèvres, Île de la Cité, and it couldn’t have been more Parisian. Perched on the top floor, the apartment offered sweeping views of the Seine, the Left Bank, and even the Eiffel Tower—a dream to wake up to each morning. The location was unbeatable: tucked just around the corner from Place Dauphine, with cafés and charming walks at our doorstep, and easy access to the rest of the city.
